Williams, Dominque, BC’14

My journey has followed a path remarkably similar to Lou Montgomery’s. Like Lou, I began breaking barriers through football, using the game as a doorway into spaces that weren’t always built with people who look like me in mind. When I arrived at Boston College, I learned quickly what it meant to carry the weight of representation, to navigate spaces where my presence alone challenged norms, and to grow through both the opportunities and the quiet pressures that came with them. Football shaped me, but it also positioned me, just as it did Lou, to step into leadership long before I ever realized that’s what I was doing.

And just as Lou Montgomery used his courage to open doors for those who would follow, I’ve committed my life’s work to doing the same. His legacy of advocating for future generations mirrors the calling I’ve embraced in education. Through my leadership, my mentorship, and initiatives like the Future Black Educators Summit, I fight to ensure that the students coming behind me don’t face the same barriers I did. Lou used his platform to shift what was possible, and today, I use mine to lift others, create pathways, and widen the doors for every young person who needs someone to believe in them first.
